Fathers and Sons: A Guest Post

Ashlee asked me to record some of my thoughts about some man activities that have
taken place recently. After some convincing, I agreed to provide the verbiage to accompany
her masterfully compiled collages.

In the above image, you will note, there is a tent pitched in our living room. We had been planning a father/son/son/grandpa camping and fishing trip for a few weeks. The weather forecast had other plans. It looked like it would be raining all night Friday and all day Saturday, so we decided to postpone. In order to placate the disappointed little ones, we decided to have
a camp out anyway. We turned it into a camping/movie/treat night, complete with
camping chairs. The chairs added a lot to the authentic camp out feel. I let the boys pick the movie: Aliens in the Attic. It was not as bad as you might think. We watched; we had cookies; they fell asleep quickly and quite content. I had to unzip the tent after about an hour though; it started getting pretty musty in there.

Oh, and it did not start raining until about two o'clock on Saturday, so we skipped the
fishing for nothing. Stinkin' Weather Channel sons o' bees.

Instead of fishing on Saturday morning we, as family, scoured the community garage sale
for tasty finds. We lucked out with a nice, solid-wood table and chairs. You'll see the before
and after pictures of those later. Then Grandpa still wanted to hang out despite the failed
camping trip. We had a men only morning at the bowling alley, while Ashlee had her
baby shower. Lame.

We had a great time. The boys love bowling. They love the real thing even more than the Wii version even though their scores suffer a little. There's nothing like feeling a grease covered ball in your hands, and the thrill that comes along with the dangerous unknown: How often do they clean those holes out? They think the shoes are awesome too.

Notice Jack on the bottom right, lining up his shot and preparing for his running start. he actually won the first game. Alaster did a pretty good job too with the assistance of the little ball ramp dealy. Jack ended up getting one strike and a few spares. Aly got a handful of spares too.
A big improvement for both over the last bowling outing we had.
